Evolution or Creation?
Which is hardest to accept?
See what you think after this ....
You think that evolution is clearly true, and that noone in their right mind could believe
in some god that YOU can't identify or see "proof" of?
Can I presume then, that you believe in an alternative view of the world where there is:
no-god, eons of time, big bang, evolutionary, survival of the fittest, gene mutation, as
the only possible explanation for your own existence, then? You believe you evolved from
the monkeys, who evolved from single cells? And you believe in luck / chance, big time.
If so, then you'll also accept that:
- the weak and old are surely expendable - using survival of the fittest / "for the good
of all" type reasons. So then logically, we should simply kill criminals, down syndrome children,
and anyone with a genetic fault. Why waste resources (taxes) on them? And why hold up and
poison our evolutionary progress with damaged genes, and counter-productive behaviours?
Let's be pro-active instead, in weeding out the chaff, for our species' best evolutionary prospects.
- that love is a weakness that is actually irrelevant, and of no evolutionary value as it's lost
at every generation and it is, at best, just a redundant instinctive throwback. Surely you see human
love no differently from animals caring for their young? Where would any other kind of love come from?
If so, then your love is of not much value to you or anyone else, and further, that you have no need of
anyone else's weakness (love). Or has love itself evolved? But what proof have you that love itself,
even exists? Do you believe in love?
- that some human races are definitely superior to others because they've been separated
for long periods and have therefore had different rates of evolution, especially in recent
times. As a logical consequence you believe in racism, and are racist yourself, and therefore
support groups like Ku Klux Klan. I guess you believe that Hitler and Stalin were actually
on the right track, too, since they believed in refining a "master race".
- that friendships are simply associations of convenience because emotions are an evolutionary
nonsense. Is there a spirit, and if so, how did it evolve? If there is no spirit, then what
are emotions? Emotions could have no evolutionary purpose save being a left-over from the
pragmatics of team work in the hunting and gathering stage. Perhaps if there's no god, then
we've all evolved a fractured brain that recognises something that's not really there, or
that we ascribe too much credit to. Ironically, that's the same argument that many evolutionists
use, saying that CHRISTians created god!
- that if I murder each member of your family, it doesn't really matter because we (humans)
are not endangered as a species. Your life, mine and their's have no real, or eternal value
in the big scheme of eons of time evolution. Serial killers often believe their life and
those lives around them have no intrinsic value. Are they right, then? After all, what
difference can, or do I make to the big endless scheme of millions of years evolving?
I must just be dust, after all.
- that involuntary euthanasia, suicide, abortion, and capital punishment are simply logical
and expedient ways of dealing with human weakness. Moreso, there should be no "retirement"
from work, and that entertainment including music is a frivolous waste of time and resources.
Or, ... how has "pleasure" evolved? What mutation conceived pleasure? Or what possible advantage
could "evolving a pleasure behaviour" have had in surviving? That would be counter-productive
wouldn't it? Is the pleasure gene passed on? Really?
- that there is no (scientific) alternative to the theory of evolution, and you believe
evolution will eventually explain peacock feathers, how eyes, poison/venom, and turtles evolved.
(But see: Answers in Genesis for credible
alternate scientific explanations for what we see around us.)
I could go on. To me personally, evolutionary thinking is unacceptable. It goes against
my nature, even if I'm imagining or conjuring that nature. This of course, itself is a paradox
that evolution cannot explain.
What a cold and unfeeling world the eons of evolution alternative represents. It says that
we're all doomed to die without any particular worth really, even to ourselves. We'll all
just wear out one day and be replaced by one of a million others just like us. Evolutionary
thinking teaches us that we're just bees or ants, without a future or hope, that we're just
dust in the endless expanse of the universe.
Whether one chooses to believe in a semi-scientific (but unproven) theory for existence, or
chooses to believe in a loving creator, should be up to the individual to decide for themselves,
with respect from others for that decision.
After all that, if you care to counsel the alternative that a god MIGHT exist, then go
back and (re-)read my:
"Was Jesus a Liar?" page.
Oh, and well done for getting through all that deep stuff.
