The Treasurer, Michael Aird, needs to explain
whether his “policy” that chief executives should
not sit on their company’s boards only applied to
the former TOTE chief, Terry Clarke.
Mr Aird dumped Mr Clarke from the TOTE board last
December for this reason.
Yet he has not even mentioned concerns about
Transend’s CEO, Richard Bevan, also being on the
Transend Board, with either Mr Bevan or the Energy
Minister, David Llewellyn, Government Business
Enterprise hearings were told today.
Leader of the Opposition, Will Hodgman, said that if
Mr Aird had such strong views about this matter, it
was extraordinary that he hadn’t seen fit to mention
them in relation to Transend, of which he is a
shareholder minister.
“Either Mr Aird has genuine concerns about CEOs
being on boards and has been too lazy to develop a
government policy in this regard or his concern was
contrived in order to shaft Mr Clarke from TOTE’s
board as the first step of trying to get rid of him
altogether,” Mr Hodgman said.
“The Treasurer needs to explain himself.”
