The State Opposition said the Premier
needed to be transparent right through the new
process.
The Leader of the Opposition, Will
Hodgman, said that included the selection criteria
for the appointment of a consultant, the guidelines
for assessment of the project and the time for
debate by the Parliament.
“I want to see a consultant of the
highest integrity to assess this project. If that’s
not the case it will fall at the first hurdle,” Mr
Hodgman said.
“I believe most Tasmanians would at
least want this project to be assessed against the
strictest guidelines. It is too important a project
not to be properly tested.”
The Opposition Leader said if it’s necessary the
consultant should be secured from overseas. That
company or group would need to take wide-ranging
submissions, including from the builders of pulp
mills.
Mr
Hodgman questioned why the Premier had apparently
extracted himself from the appointment of a
consultant to assess the proposed pulp mill, given
his level of involvement so far.
