$12 million announcement welcomed |
Today’s $12 million announcement by the Minister for
the Environment and Water Resources, Malcolm
Turnbull, will be a great benefit to farmers and
irrigators.
The Leader of the State Opposition, Will Hodgman,
said Minister Turnbull’s announcement in the State’s
North West is greatly welcomed and will ensure the
sustainable use of surface and ground water as well
as provide irrigators with the ability monitor water
use data in real time.
“The Minister’s commitment of $4.3 million for the
Sassafras-Wesley Vale Irrigation Scheme Project will
provide farmers and irrigators in the area with
security of supply of water and will return unused
water back into the system,” Mr Hodgman said.
“The announcement of more than $7.8 million in
funding for the Tasmanian Water Use Management
Project will enable famers and irrigators to access
accurate and reliable water use data which will
encourage more efficient water use.
“All projects that result in the efficient use of
water in the State must be encouraged.
“I congratulate Cradle Coast Water and Hydro
Tasmania on the quality of the projects they have
presented to the Minister and their ability to
attract this significant commitment from the Federal
Government.”
