PLATYPUS

APPEARANCE:
The platypus is brown and covered with fur. It has four legs and a tail. Its eyes are slit in front of its ears. On its bill it has two nostrils.                                                                                  Kristen.
 

FOOD:
It eats yabbies, worms, insects, fish eggs and water plants.

HABITAT:
The platypus lives in both hot and cold climates in freshwater creeks, rivers and lakes in Eastern Australia from Cooktown in North Queensland to Tasmania.

MOVEMENT:
The platypus has webbed feet to help it swim.

PROTECTION:
It uses its strong claws to fight its enemies. It hides in its burrow and that’s how it gets away from its enemies.

The platypus cannot breathe under water.

REPRODUCTION:
The female lays two small, rubbery eggs at the end of the long burrow.
