  3. Many different fungi grow on logs or rotting leaves on the rainforest floor. They are often bright colours.
Fungi have an important job in the rainforest. They clean up all the rubbish. They help break down fallen leaves, twigs and logs to help make the soil rich.
Fungi have no stems, leaves or flowers and don't have any green pigment, so they can't make their own food. They get nutrients from rotting plants.
Mushrooms and toadstools are fungi and in some countries they are eaten, but in Australia people still think most fungi are poisonous.
