SPOTTED CUSCUS

Description
The Cuscus is a mammal, about 75 centimetres long and weighs about 2.5 kilograms. The male is grey with spots all over. The female is nearly grey all over. It has thick woolly fur, a short nose and very small ears. It has red rims around its eyes.
Half the tail is hairless.
.Food

The Cuscus eats fruit, flowers and leaves. It has large tearing teeth so that it can eat meat and eggs. It feeds during the night.

 

Habitat
 

The Spotted Cuscus lives in lowland tropical rainforest and nearby mangroves in Northern Queensland. Cuscus are nocturnal and nest in hollow trees and plants at nightime.
 

Threats to Survival

Not many of these animals live in one place and their forest home is being destroyed.

 

Behaviour

During the day the cuscus moves around on branches. Its feet can grip very tightly onto branches. When it bounds across the ground its tail curls up. The male fights to defend its territory.
