Run- off

What is runoff and where does all the water go?

Run-off is the rain that is neither absorbed by the ground nor evaporated.

Some of the water could go into peoples water tanks  and some might soak into grassy areas.  Most of the water goes into the storm water drains and ends up in our creeks, rivers and finally the ocean.

Where does all the water come from?

Some of the water cannot be absorbed by the ground because of the roads, rooftops and car parks. This water is run-off.

In some farmland situations, most of the trees are cleared and when the rain hits down hard, most of the pesticides and fertilizers go into our waterways.

What is in the run-off?
