SENIOR NET MEETING - SUNDAY 16
DECEMBER 2001
Executive Meeting opened at 12.30 p.m. at the home of Elizabeth Murphy.
PRESENT: G. Lincoln, J. Cremer, E. Murphy (Committee: E.Weber,)
APOLOGIES: Geoffrey Hardwick, Patricia Webb, Mavis and Doug Stevens,
David Clinch, Carmel Wallace.
BUSINESS: George Lincoln to attend to Notice of Meetings. Membership
needs to be looked at as to why it is declining George to contact everyone on
membership list both financial and unfinancial, seeking interest in SeniorNet. Seniors Net
is for learning about computers/Internet NOT just Internet. What do members want from
Seniors Net?
Suggestion was that meeting at a Club may be more interesting than
Tuggeranong Community Centre. One problem is Clubs do not have computers available whereas
Tuggeranong Community Centre has computers available for everyone present to use.
Could possibly alternate Tuggeranong with Clubs to see how that works
out. Meetings previously held at Clubs were obviously successful. Meetings would probably
be on week days at a Club, and on the third Sunday at Tuggeranong for a workshop.
Retirement Villages to be targeted with a possible flyer in colour advertising SeniorNet
and what can be gained from it by being a member. A Local newsletter was another
suggestion. Geoffrey to be asked to update the Web Site regularly.
George bought to the meeting a number of computer books prices ranging
from $14.95 to $34 they are available at Newsagents. Meeting closed at 1.40 p.m.
The General meeting began at 1.45. p.m.
Present: Beryl & Norman Hunter, Ailsa & Gunor Braslins, Rae W.
Purves and Marian Kossatz, George Lincoln, Elizabeth Murphy, Edith Weber, Joyce Cremer.
Elizabeth very generously had all members at her home for the meetings
and a Christmas afternoon tea followed, with a small gift for all present and
entertainment that I was unable to stay for as I had a prior engagement and left for
Melbourne that evening.
Thank you Elizabeth. Also a special thank you to Carmel Liertz who
played the piano so beautifully during the afternoon. NEXT MEETING: for The Executive
only
Sunday 20 January 2002 at the home of Elizabeth Murphy, Isaacs. 12.30 p.m. Phone:

from anyone with computer problems.

operating the mouse 'cut the end out of a shoe box and put your hand in the box and
on the mouse.'
A lot of interesting computer problems were put forward by members and
very useful information on the use of and interest in computers was discussed by members
and instructors.

TUGGERANONG
COMMUNITY CENTRE
CANBERRA
SeniorNet -- Sunday 16 September 2001
Due to some misunderstanding, only
one member of Committee had arrived at the Tuggeranong Community Centre at the appointed
time for the meeting (12.30 pm), the scheduled Committee meeting was abandoned after phone
discussion between Elizabeth Murphy and Geoffrey Hardwick.
However, from approximately 1.30 pm,
several members of SeniorNet started to arrive for the scheduled regular members' meeting
and workshop. By 1.45 p.m., the following members had arrived:
Elizabeth Murphy (Committee member),
Edith Weber, Rae Purves, Ailsa Braslins, Beryl and Norman Hunter. After further telephone
conversation, Geoffrey Hardwick (President) also arrived.
Apologies were received from Gunar
Braslins, George Lincoln.
The members present elected
Elizabeth Murphy to take the chair, and the meeting got under way at 1.45 p.m..
Recommendations of the members were as follows:
 | Recommended that Committee
meetings start at 12.30 as currently scheduled, but have a full hour to avoid the
disruption of general members walking in half way through a half-hour meeting -- 12.30 -
1.30 p.m..
|
 | Recommended that General Meetings
start at 1.30 p.m. and continue into workshop until 4.00 p.m.. Several members find it
difficult to get to the venue before 1.30.
|
 | Recommended that the following
procedures be observed in future for notices of meetings and associated matters:
|
 | meetings definitely to be 3rd
Sunday in every month
|
 | notice of meeting to remind of
this AND give the actual date
|
 | notice of meeting to be on e-mail
discussion group list, on the web site, and in the ordinary letter post (for people
without e-mail)
|
 | list of dates of meetings for
ensuing 12 months to be put on web site and regularly updated
|
 | web site URL to be put in e-mail
notices as well
|
Recommended that members be informed of certain matters that they are
entitled to know (we realised that these have been stated at various times, but it was
recommended that the information be pulled together for e-mailing AND for putting on the
web site):
 | list of names of all current
committee members, including the Public Officer, and the responsibilities of each
committee member
|
 | clarification of what is a quorum
(for both Committee meetings and General Meetings) -- the President indicated that he
would attend to these recommendations, plus provide a copy of the constitution
|
 | Recommended that the business part
of General Meetings be more structured and formal -- with a proper agenda -- in order to
get through business matters expeditiously, so that the remaining time can be devoted
exclusively to workshop computer problems or ideas.
|
 | Recommended that everyone should
have the phone number and e-mail address of Joyce Cremer (Secretary) and that apologies
MUST be sent to her by one or other means before the date of a meeting if unable to
attend.
|
Geoffrey reported that the organisation was in arrears in reporting to the
appropriate ACT government authority on an annual basis, and in attending to the audited
financial statements. He asked for two volunteers to check the audited accounts. Ailsa and
Rae volunteered and are to be contacted privately to arrange to do this. Geoffrey also
undertook to see that these matters were brought up to date, in consultation with George
Lincoln (Treasurer).
The meeting asked Geoffrey to
include on the web site sections which would cover the following:
* Notices of meetings and related
matters
* Frequently asked questions -- an
FAQ section based on interesting and useful problem areas that had been workshopped in a
meeting (these also to be printed out for the benefit of people who come to meetings but
are not connected to the Internet)
Elizabeth suggested that members
might like to have the December meeting (16 December) at her house -- this was agreed to.
Further details would appear later, but the meeting would be at the usual time (1.30 -
4.00pm) with the Committee meeting at 12.30 at the same address. It would be a normal
meeting, with business agenda, followed by workshop. Elizabeth's laptop computer would be
available for this purpose. Members would be asked to bring a small plate of something
towards a Christmas afternoon tea. Elizabeth will provide tea, coffee and juice.
Beryl proposed a vote of thanks to
Elizabeth for chairing the meeting.
There being no further business, the
meeting closed at 2.35pm, and members then workshopped a number of computer problems with
Geoffrey until 4.00pm.
There was no executive meeting as
not enough members were present for a quorum.
PRESENT: George Lincoln, Joyce
Cremer (COMMITTEE: Edith Weber)

problems with George who was able to solve them for us.
Val Miller has discontinued her
membership with SeniorNet.
