Helichrysum bracteatum also called Bracteantha bracteatum(everlasting or paper daisy), a variable species which grows under a wide range of climatic conditions, is one of Australias most renowned wildflowers

Having finally found the place to stop, the parking area is hemmed with banks of shrubbery. The visitors' centre and the toilet blocks are almost hidden behind plants that, you soon realise, look interesting. It's wintertime, but there are masses of flowers here. None of your bare boughs and European starkness. This is the place that absolutely celebrates Australian flora in all its glory, with examples from our tropical rainforests and deserts, from the rugged mountain ranges to the sweeping plains. They're mixed together, the familiar with the strange, exciting colours, the bizarre, the unexpected. Homoranthus jostles with prostrate banksias for your attention. Some rare mallees are dripping with gorgeously pink gum blossom,

 

 

 

 

Many of the shrubs in full bloom are cultivars, varieties especially developed for cultivation in gardens, like the grevilleas 'Boongala Spinebill'. 'Misty Pink' and 'Honey Gem'. They have attracted wattle birds, honeyeaters, spinebills and clouds of wanderer butterflies.
