Introduction
I conclude this introduction to astronomy by raising the question of whether there is intelligence in the universe other than that found on the earth. Having asked you this question, I leave you to try to find answers from the links provided.
At present, no life outside of the earth has been found in the solar system, but renewed efforts to explore Mars are continuing.
Outside of the solar system it would be difficult to detect intelligent life but the privately funded SETI project is continuing, as described in the links below.
Here is our first link to the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence:

From your research on the websites, see if you can answer the following questions. If you have any problems e-mail me or put your query on the discussion page.
What are the primary conditions for life to evolve?
Why is there such a proliferation of all forms of life on the earth?
Who first described the change in life forms by natural selection? Where would you look to find details on the best prospects for intelligent life outside of the solar system? And within the solar system?
How could you use your computer time to help the SETI project?
A farewell
I have really enjoyed this course and I learned quite a bit more about astronomy in the course preparation and execution. I hope you have obtained satisfaction from this course, and that you will continue your interest in astronomy and observation. If there are any other aspects that you would like to discuss, please e-mail me your questions or comments.
