Total Solar Eclipse 2005 April 8
Baily's Beads from Daniel Fischer at
Sea
Theodore Lunar
Observatory, Australia
Daniel Fischer reported the observation of 31 Baily's Beads just before and just
after the total solar eclipse, from a ship cruising at 22d 37' S, and
129d 39' W ( or 230d 21' E) for a totality of about 33s.
The circumstances for this location are
shown below:
Some of the the 33 predicted Baily's
Beads are shown below near the end of totality:
Here is a table of the Baily's Beads
predicted from WINOccult version 3.01 (see IOTA)
at 22d37' S and 230d21' E at sea level
- for Daniel Fischer's cruise
The predicted time of 2C is 19h 51m 19s
and of 3C is 19h 51m 51s, giving a Totality time of 32s.
Before Totality the first bead occurs 1 second BEFORE 2C
After Totality the last bead occurs 2 seconds AFTER 3 C

In the Table above the Time is in UT and WA is Watt's Angle (N
through E), the position of the Bead.
Height is the correction to the lunar limb profile in
seconds of arc.
These predictions are used to
solve for corrections to the Sun's RA, Dec and semi-diameter or
Radius,
these values can be seen in the
Baily's Beads illustration above.
