TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE EXPEDITION

Here are some frame grabbed images from my Sony CCD-TR511E analogue video camera. The eclipse was observed from just outside our camp site at Mvuu, Zambia in Africa on 21 June 2001. All the images were recorded in Universal Time and a correction to the displayed times of minus 2 minutes 16 seconds is required due to a drift in the recorded time on the video camera. This makes the corrected time for first contact in image one which was a little late, to be 11h 45m 48s Universal Time and my first image of totality at 13h 11m 31s.

 

In the image below two Baily Beads can be seen at the right hand side of the thin solar crescent.

The true time for the diamond ring image above (third contact) was 13h 14m 03s.
