Tour is 4 Nights Hotel and 8 Nights Camping

 

Day 1 (Thursday 2001 June 14)

Depart Canberra Airport 0645, depart Sydney airport at 0915 for Johannesburg arriving there around 1800 where we meet our tour leader and go to Hotel.

Countries: South Africa, Botswana and Zambia.

 

Days 2-3 (Friday & Saturday 2001 June 15-16)

Depart Johannesburgh by bus for Botswana and Tumelo Lodge at Tuli, where we camp for two nights. At Tumelo we watch the African big game from our vehicle on Saturday.

Group Size: Limited to 15 Age: Open

Day 4 (Sunday 2001 June 17)

Travel by bus from Tumelo to Nata Lodge for overnight stay. Make our way to the Makgadigadi salt pans.

Day 5 (Monday 2001 June 18)

By vehicle from Nata to Chobe National Park for camping and evening boat cruise on the Chobe River.

Start 14 June 2001 Finish 26 June 2001

Day 6 (Tuesday 2001 June 19)

At Chobe we take part in a game drive and then depart for the Waterfront on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls, where we view the falls and embark for a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River.

Tour Costs:

Approximately $(AU)5,500

Land content cost will be $(US)1,885,

or currently $(AU)3,696

A deposit of $(AU)400 to Active Travel* is required as soon as possible

Day 7 (Wednesday 2001 June 20)

Drive to the eclipse site and make camp at Mvuu (see Map2) for three nights.

Included in our tour cost:

Camping & cooking equipment, mattress, accommodation in city hotels, all meals whilst camping, all park entry fees, all ground transportation and services of driver/tour leaders.

Day 8 (Thursday 2001 June 21)

Eclipse day, all set up and ready to observe the total solar eclipse around 1312 UT with a totality duration of nearly 3 minutes 30 seconds. Some may observe Baily Beads before and after totality.

 

Included in our Airfares:

Canberra - Sydney - Africa by Qantas Airlines with Departure Taxes and Airport Transfers.

Day 9 (Friday 2001 June 22)

At Mvuu we again watch the African big game.

 

Not included in Costs:

Visas, travel insurance and items of personal nature.

Day 10 (Saturday 2001 June 23)

Depart from Mvuu to Victoria Falls area and stay for two nights at our hotel.

 

Mode of surface transport:

Bus and 4X4 vehicle.

Day 11 (Sunday 2001 June 24)

A free day in the Victoria Falls area where we can take part in the many attractions on offer there.

 

Standard of accommodation Hotels & Camping:

Hotels, all ***+:

At Johannesburg: the Falstaff Inn

At Victoria Falls: the Azambezi

Camping:

All camping is in two person tents with flooring. All tents are provided with mattresses and all campsites have facilities (toilet & shower).

Day 12 (Monday 2001 June 25)

Fly from Victoria Falls to Johannesburg and board flights to Perth and Sydney.

 

Day 13 (Tuesday 2001 June 26)

Arrive at Sydney.

 

Additional itineraries can be arranged for those whom wish to see more of Africa after the expedition, or travel onto Europe etc.

Overseas expedition members should arrange their own flights to meet the group at Johannesburg as given for Day 1 above.
