The 1984 November 22 Total Solar Eclipse

at Gaba Gaba, New Guinea

by

Byron Soulsby, Theodore Lunar Observatory

Introduction

An expedition to Port Moresby, New Guinea was undertaken by the Canberra Astronomical Society in 1984 to observe the Total Solar Eclipse.

Two groups travelled to observe Baily's Beads and my group of Andrew James, Cathie, Lynda and Byron Soulsby was successful after setting up near the costal village of Gaba Gaba just east of Port Moresby. The scanned publicaton gives a detailed account of this successful group.

The eclipse circumstances at Gaba Gaba and some of the Baily's Beads predicted for this site are included in the images below:

Predicted Baily's Beads

The above Baily's Beads were predicted from David Herald's Occult Program and can be compared with those in the Table as observed at Gaba Gaba in 1984.
