An expedition to Palohwaru, Central Java was undertaken by the Canberra Astronomical Society in 1983 to observe the Total Solar Eclipse.
Two groups travelled to observe Baily's Beads and Cathie and Byron Soulsby were successful after setting up near the costal village of Palohwaru, Central Java. The scanned publicaton gives a detailed account of this successful observation.

Below is a screen capture of several Baily's Beads as predicted. The solution for these beads shows that correction to the Sun's radius is -0.70" of arc. It is expected that a full analysis of the beads reported will enhance this value.
