This is the first total lunar eclipse of 1972

An attempt was made to observe this Total Lunar Eclipse from Black Mountain in Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory. Unfortunately heavy fog prevented observation and the planned crater timings were not possible. This was the first of many such observations in the Soulsby Series of lunar eclipses.
