Gundaroo Pub Run
Sunday, 7 October 2007

The Annual Gundaroo Wine Bar (Pub) Run is one of the best club runs of the year. It is a medium length run, on mostly flat roads (except for Smiths Gap, which is a bit of a hike for some of the oldies) and attracts a VERY WIDE range of machines and riders, vintage to modern. This is the ingredient that this Club has above ALL other clubs in the region - DIVERSITY. For people who love motorcycles of all types - the VVCMCC is the ONLY club in this region which has this amazing comraderie between riders and motorcycles of all types and ages.
Getting back to the Run:
On arrival at the services club I noticed a small lineup of very shiny custom Harleys, one of them belonging to club member Simon Whittaker. The others were not coming along on the ride, but had simply come to “have a look at the old bikes”.

This week the backup trailer was in the competent hands of Waine Summerfield, and was ready for action well before the start of the run. Although there were no breakdowns on this ride it was reassuring to know that Waine was looking after us.

The route went along Canberra Ave through Oaks Estate, Fairbairn Ave and through Queanbeyan via Yass Road and onto the Kings Highway to Bungendore. There was a brief stop at Bungendore to regroup and some riders called in to the pie shop to keep energy levels up.
A brief climb up through Smiths Gap and then mostly flat roads to the destination, the Gundaroo Wine Bar.

The INDIANS were out in force again today, the oldest vintage being Rob Harris on his 1922 model, seemingly having no problems keeping up with the modern bikes! What other 1922 vehicle (car or bike) would manage this? Accompanying him was brother Wayne, and fellow Indian, Glen on 1944 models.
The always-friendly management at the Gundaroo Wine Bar were well prepared for the onslaught and I heard nothing but good comments about the meals and service.

The "Mr Speedy Award" for this run goes to Mark Cumberland on his Yamaha SR500 for a very surprising overtake of Ron Allen (BSA Rocket 3) and others, on the straight coming into Bungendore.

Thanks to all who participated.
This was another really great ride with a great Club.
