Welcome to Karralika
Action Group’s resource site.
Karralika Action Group (KAG) is a
community group originally formed in January 2004 as a result of
discovering the ACT Government’s plans to expand a small, residential
drug facility located on the bush ridge between Fadden and Macarthur
suburbs (256 Bugden Ave, Fadden), into a major drug rehabilitation
centre. This was done with extremely limited notification and without
public consultation, under the guise of ‘refurbishment’. It was
subsequently revealed that the actual development proposal was to turn
the residential-sized Karralika drug rehabilitation centre into a
60-70 bed, institution-sized facility.
KAG was established to lobby for genuine
community consultation and transparent high-quality planning in the ACT,
particularly in regards to the Karralika redevelopment. Our intention is to
ensure that any redevelopment occurs in a way that benefits both the community
and the clients, and maintains the good relations that have existed since its
inception.
KAG is committed to ensuring that:
-
the ACT Government planning process is clear,
transparent and honest;
-
any proposal is beneficial to the clients and
the local communities;
-
local residents can participate in genuine
community consultation;
-
community views are heard and taken into
account;
-
it provides support to other community groups
facing similar situations across Canberra.
KAG is not a politically affiliated group; we are
open to support from all political parties.
This website is designed to provide resources and
information for local residents and the wider Canberra community on what is
happening with the proposed Karralika redevelopment process.
