A chance to help FIT - Canberra 1/2 Ironman - 15 Dec

Drink Station volunteers needed for the ½ Ironman triathlon, Sunday 15 December.

Once again FIT will be running two of the drink stations on the Canberra half ironman run course to be held in Commonwealth Park on Sunday 15 December. If you are interested in coming down to watch the race, why not participate in the fun by helping out. We need quite a few volunteers to hand out water, sports drink, ice and pepsi to the athletes, and to cheer on the FIT girls who will be doing the race. Its always a great day and a good way to get inspired about your next race.

Volunteers are needed from 9am until around 2pm. If you can help out for 2 or more hours during that time, please email Angela Rymer at by Friday 29 November, with the times you will be available. There may even be a free t-shirt in it for you!! More information about the race can be found on the website.

Bicycle lockers in town centres

Want secure bike parking in a town centre?

There are 50 bike lockers at the bus interchanges around Canberra managed by Pedal Power. For less than $2/week you can rent one! The lockers are situated at Civic, Belconnen, Gungahlin, Woden and Tuggeranong. The minimum rental period is 6 months which costs $48, but there are discounts if you rent for longer because it means less work for volunteers, eg $88 for 1 year (one month free).

Rental can be arranged through the Pedal Power office 12-2pm Thursdays or leave a message for an http://www.pedalpower.org.au/events/locker/formlockers.htm. The form can be downloaded from the website.

On receiving your application and fee Pedal Power will remove its padlock to allow you to place your own padlock on your locker.

To see what the bicycle lockers look like go to the website.

CANBERRA CYCLES FINAL SALE

After many years of running a great shop and being fantastic supporters to many clubs and events including Females in Training, John, Elaine and Ben are calling it a day and have sold the business. There will be a "Closed Door Sale" for invited people only (all FIT members are invited of course!) on Wed 20 to Fri 22 November, 6-8pm each night. You will need to bring your membership card (they'll have a list of members too if you're still waiting for your card).

Everything will be marked down. Most bikes will be 25% off and most accessories 35% off. In the meantime, if you are looking for a new bike, go in and have a look at the range, if they don't have your size it can be ordered in. They still have a great range of parts and accessories and FIT members always get a great discount.

Please park at BBC hardware.

Hartley Ability Cycle Challenge

The Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets team need female members for their team. This is the team with the funkiest jersey in the challenge, after the FIT team of course.

Part of their sponsorship arrangement is that they have a mixed team, our own Jenifer is already part of the team but they need 2 more female riders.

You would only be required to ride as far as you feel able to each day, it is very achievable.

If you would like to be part of this great event please contact Ed Watson.

Shepparton half-ironman

There is a rumour going around that Shepparton ½ will be a duathlon. This is totally false.

The organizers have asked us to put the word out that it will definitely be a full ½ Ironman triathlon with qualifying spots for Ironman Forster.

Plus the dam is full and the water is cool so there will definitely be wetsuits
