Its always a great day and a good way to get inspired about your next race.

Volunteers are needed from 9am until around 2pm. If you can help out for 2 or more hours during that time, please email Angela Rymer at by Friday 29 November, with the times you will be available. There may even be a free t-shirt in it for you!! More information about the race can be found on the website.

Great Results at Triathlon World Championships

Congratulations to our FIT and BIT who represented Australia at the ITU World Championships in Cancun, Mexico.

Lindy Dunn - 18th F50-54 (2:43), Peter Dunn - 45th M55-59 (2:47).

The athletes had to compete in really tough conditions with high temperatures (over 30 degrees) and high humidity, and many athletes did well just to finish!

Hartley Lifecare Challenge - with some support from Aventis

On 29 November to 1 December, a team of FIT riders will be cycling from Canberra to Koscuiszko and back again to raise funds for Hartley Life Care for the Disabled.

We have many sponsors including Aventis, a pharmaceutical company that manufactures a medication for the treatment of osteoporosis.

The effects of osteoporotic fractures are becoming significant in an ageing population as it can have an adverse effect on well being. The causes of osteoporosis are many. Exercising is effective in reducing osteoporosis.

The Aventis company was interested in the range of activity by FIT members, as it seems a good role model for women to continue exercise throughout their lives. This will reduce the incidence of osteoporosis in our community. In those not so fortunate, it is important to realise that early detection is helpful and that effective treatments are available.

Dr Cec - in a serious vein.

Charity swim in Victoria

Swim for Women's Health

For those of you in Victoria, or planning to be in Victoria on the 14th of December, there is a new open water swimming event happening. It is called 'Swim For Your Life', and it's a charity event. There's no better way to kick off your open water summer, and help prepare for events like the Pier to Pub.

Join patron Nicole Livingstone in an open water charity swim on Saturday 14 December at 10am in Brighton. All proceeds of the event will be donated to leading Australian women's health organization The Jean Hailes Foundation.

The primary focus of The Jean Hailes Foundation is the health and wellbeing of the 3.3 million Australian women between 35 and 65. Overall, women live longer than men, but endure a decade more of ill health and disability. The Foundation provides women with access to information to make informed decisions about the special health needs and issues relevant to them.

It is hoped that the swim will become a national annual event to promote women's health. Entrants are in the running for great prizes including a weekend for two at Club Med Lindeman Island and Lane Four wetsuits. Prizes for all race finishers.

Members of ACT cycling community

The 9th Australian Masters Games (AMG) are coming to Canberra from 31October to 9 November 2003! Just under a year, and organisation of the road cycling events are moving along.
