Things to do
- Trips
- Rock climbing
Manatuto is, so far, the rock climbing capital of Timor. While it does not have spectacular mountains, it does have lots of rocky outcrops. All of those which we have so far investigated are on the extended slopes of Mt Curi. The rock (limestone) is strong and solid at angles from the slabby to the scary overhang but, with very few repeats of most climbs to date, loose rock is a real issue and a helmet must be worn by everyone on and below the climbs. The routes will "clean up with traffic".
- Snorkelling/diving
There are a number of great locations for snorkelling, swimming or diving on the main Dili-Manatuto road. Dollar Beach is the most famous but there is also Bob's rock beach, K41 and Secret Garden.
- Mount Curi failed summit attempt walk/mountaineering (One day, Hard, EPIC POTENTIAL)
- K47 ridge walk - a spectacular outcrop looms to the south, as part of the extended Mount Curi system of which it is a relatively low biut point sub-summit. It should be possible to park at about K47 (47 km from Dili) and walk up a ridge to the local summit.
