Matthews Family History
This site was established for the purpose of research into the families of my 16 great great grandparents. A table providing birth, marriage and death dates and places is at Summary Table
The bulk of the records relate to the Australian States of Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales, and Wales and England in the United Kingdom.
Detail on each family can be accessed by clicking on one of the surnames below:
William Matthews b1804 |
Matilda Ball b1807 |
John Beynon 1830-1904 |
Catherine Elliot b1811 |

There is extensive material on related families which has been incorporated into genealogical records of the 16 surnames above. In particular the files for Miles, Hayse, Bache, Thomas, Murrish, Beynon and Chapman contain a lot of additional information over and above direct lines of descendancy. On the other extreme the files for Addis, Jackson and May are very small and simply reflect a lack of research effort!
A simple tree showing my relationship to the 16 families is shown in the attached Family tree This opens with Adobe Reader.
I would like to acknowledge the inclusion of the extensive work by other researchers and in particular on related or extended families including Benallack, Tonkin, Thomas, Miles and Hayse. My thanks also to many family members for their time, patience and information.
Additional research on related families has also been undertaken and it should be noted that this is very much work in progress and not complete. These families include: Benallack, Casanelia, Tonkin, Cleaver, Howell-Price, Hunt and Raggart.
As time permits I will be progressively adding written histories of each family. Initially some will be very short whilst others more extensive. Written histories will be completed for Matthews, May, Beynon, Morgan, Walker, Addis, Thomas, Bache, Chapman, Jackson, Murley, Murrish, Mitchell. Wetherell, Hayse and Miles.
For more information about my research and the detail behind the construction of this site see About this site . It includes a summary of the reference material used to underpin the development of the family trees. The list of source material is at Reference Material. The source material is largely in the public domain and includes information publicly available in government records, newspapers, books etc. I have a privacy policy which can be viewed at Privacy Policy
A summary table showing when detail on each family has been updated is at Update history
