1996/97 ACT bicycle budget

Bicycle Paths

South Canberra:

• Along Moreshead Drive between Menindee Drive and Plant Road

North Canberra:

• Along Sullivan's Creek from Wattle Street to Mouat Street, completing the bike path from the ANU north to Mouat Street.
• Extending the bike path along Northbourne Avenue north from Phillip Avenue to the traffic lights at Flemington Road, then alongside Flemington Road past Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC), to where the road widens at Randwick Road.
• The footpath on the east side of Northbourne Avenue will be widened between Antill Street and Morphett Street, to provide a connection between the bike path alongside Northbourne Avenue north of Antill Street to the ANU-to-Dickson bike path, which crosses Northbourne Avenue at Morphett Street.

Gungahlin:

• The bike path along Gungahlin Drive adjacent to Palmerston will be extended along the alignment of the extension of Gungahlin Drive to connect with the Barton Highway south of Bellenden Street. A temporary connection will also be built along the Barton Highway to connect with the bike path at Ellenborough Street, Kaleen.
• Alongside Barton Highway from the William Slim Drive roundabout to Gold Creek road, and possibly on to Federation Square and O'Halloran Circuit..

On-Road Bicycle Improvements

These will continue to be made as roads are resurfaced. They generally consist of relinemarking the resealed roads to create a wider kerbside lane, resealing road shoulders with a fine aggregate seal, and reconstructing sections of missing or damaged road shoulder.

Tuggeranong:

• Eridale Drive westbound between Taverner Street and Drakeford Drive - lane widening
• Kambah Pool Road between Namatjira Drive and the roundabout into Mount Vernon Drive - shoulder improvements

Woden/Weston Creek:

• Cotter Road between Streeton Drive and Tuggeranong Parkway - shoulder improvements
• Streeton Drive between Cotter Road and Hindmarsh Drive - lane widening

South Canberra:

• Ipswich Street between Canberra Avenue and Newcastle Street - lane widening

Belconnen:

• Belconnen Way westbound at Barry Drive traffic lights - construct 50m of shoulder
• Belconnen Way between Dryandra Street roundabout and the Barry Drive traffic lights - lane widening
• Bindubi Street between Belconnen Way and Redfern Street - lane widening
• Coulter Drive between Southern Cross Drive and Belconnen Way - lane widening
• Coulter Drive between Belconnen Way and Redfern Street - paint on-road bike lane
• Ginninderra Drive between Kingsford Smith Drive and Florey Drive - lane widening and shoulder improvements
• Ginninderra Drive between Aikman Drive and Mouat Street - lane widening and shoulder improvement.
• Glenloch Interchange southbound from William Hovell Drive to Tuggeranong Parkway, Scrivener Dam off ramp - lane widening and shoulder improvements

Other bicycle facilities

• "BUSCYCLE" - Bike racks on buses
• More bike lockers at the City bus interchange
