Hi, I am Anthony Glenn, welcome to my website. Here you will find some information about me and what I think. Many things will be explained.
The documents on this site are in PDF (Portable Document Format), which is a popular open format for presenting documents in, on the web. Libre Office was used to create the documents. Libre Office can write PDF as standard, without needing any extra software. The “Writer” application in Libre Office is my favourite word processor. Libre Office is actually more reliable than the proprietary office suites. Try doing anything unusual or complicated, then you will discover how disgustingly buggy the proprietary software is. Libre Office rocks. Everybody should have Libre Office. You can get a copy for free at LibreOffice.org . I am so grateful to the nice people at LibreOffice.org (who develop it). They have rescued me from dependency on proprietary office software. I thank them, sincerely.
Well, actually, I used to offer the documents in .SXW format, as written by an earlier version of Open Office, the predecessor of Libre Office. Alas, due to Microsoft sleaze, I cannot do that any more. Click here for a more detailed explanation, plus a discussion of file formats.
As for choice of web browser, I recommend Firefox. Thanks to the nice people in the Mozilla community, too; they make Firefox.
You are free to download and print any of the documents here. You may copy them in their entirety, without changes, as much as you wish. You may quote from them as much as you like, provided acknowledgement is given. That is, the usual rules apply, references are all right, plagiarism is not. Any of the documents may be revised at any time, so give people the latest version. If you would like to have a link on your site to a document, please point the link back to this site, not a local copy on your site. Permission is granted to cache this site, provided your cache is not likely to be more than a few weeks out of date. The thing I am trying to avoid, is people having an old copy of something which came from this site, just sitting out there on the Internet, and possibly months out of date. Permission is also granted to archive this site, provided your archive discloses the date when each file was archived.
Feedback on any of the documents is welcomed. My email address is aglenn at nospam pcug org nospam au. Please do not send me spam (unsolicited commercial email). Please do not reveal my email address to persons who might send me spam. Please do not store my email address in any version of Microsoft Outlook. Outlook is hopelessly insecure and its address book is a prime target for all kinds of malevolent programs. Just come back to this website when you want to know my email address. That way, you always get my correct email address. I use Thunderbird as my email client program. Thunderbird is available from the nice people at Mozilla.org. I left out the usual punctuation in the email address given above, to try to stop me from being mercilessly spammed. I am sure you are clever enough to put it back in. Take out the nospam as well.
To view a document, click the underlined document name. Your PDF viewer should start and show you the document. Then you can read it and print it. Printing is recommended so you can read it at your leisure.
To download a document, right-click the underlined document name. A menu should pop up, click on “Save Link As...”, then another box will pop up showing you where the document will be saved. Take note of where that is, so you can find it later. Click OK. A status box showing progress will appear. The file has been saved on to your computer when that status box gets to 100% then goes away. Browse to the file and double-click it, your PDF viewer should start and show you the document. Enjoy.

in IT. You are not unusual. And yet, you see politicians on
television bleating about the terrible IT skills shortage. So,
getting a job in IT should be easy, but your friends and relatives
say otherwise. How come? This document explains it all.
